After spending over a decade diving headfirst into the health and fitness world. Getting a degree in sport and exercise science, a master's in sport and exercise nutrition, and a laundry list of clients I've helped shed those pounds and enhance their physical and mental performance.

But you know what? Despite all this expertise, I've noticed some common pitfalls that keep people stuck in the struggle of weight loss. Today, I'm spilling the peas on the most frequent traits and habits that I've witnessed during my fitness journey, and hopefully, it can help you break free from the yo-yo dieting madness.

1. Sedentary Lifestyle:


First up, the culprit that's silently sabotaging your fitness goals – a sedentary lifestyle. Our jobs these days often chain us to our desks, and even if you hit the gym for an hour, you're still spending the majority of your day sitting. Solution? Move more! Walk at lunch, stroll in the morning, hit that 10,000 steps goal. Your body will thank you.

2. Fast Food Fiasco:


Fast food – the siren call for the time-strapped. Grabbing a meal deal on the way to work or ordering takeout regularly can wreak havoc on your health. The trick? Prep your meals ahead. Spend a couple of hours on the weekend, and you've got healthy, time-saving options all week.

3. Late-night Eating and Sleep Woes:


Eating late won't make you gain weight, but it can mess with your sleep quality and increase hunger cravings. Prioritize sleep, cut out late-night snacking, and watch those midnight munchies disappear.

4. Snack Attack:


Our dependence on sugary snacks is real. Snacking on processed treats adds unnecessary calories. Cut back, stay hydrated, and watch your weight management game level up.

5. Breakfast Matters:


Skipping breakfast? Bad move. A good breakfast stabilizes sugar levels, reduces snacking, and keeps you fuller for longer. Opt for slow-release options like porridge oats.

6. Portion Control:


Mindless eating and oversized portions are a deadly combo. Be mindful of how much you eat. Try removing a quarter of your usual portion, eat slowly, and savour every bite. Your body will thank you.

7. Liquid Calories:


Those sugary drinks and that nightly bottle of wine? Liquid calories are sneaky. Cut back, and you'll see a significant impact on your weight loss journey.

8. Mindful Eating:


Be aware of what and how much you eat. You can still enjoy treats, just in moderation. Slow down, savour your food, and put that fork down between bites. Your body will let you know when it's full.

9. Weekend Warrior Syndrome:


Lastly, the weekend binger. Don't undo your progress by overindulging on weekends. Be mindful, cut back on frequency, and find ways to enjoy without derailing your goals.
